This is FAD
Meet Fr. Andrew Dickinson, his friends call him “FAD.” Fr. Andrew is a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, SD. He serves as a pastor of four parishes and in other diocesan roles.

This is DAD
Meet Joshua Burks, his three boys call him dad. Happily married for almost a decade, Joshua teaches at The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies in the Diocese of Lincoln, NE.

“I have a dream…”
No, really. The FAD&DAD story begins with a dream that Josh had back in circa 2016 while Fr. Andrew and he were serving on the campus of South Dakota State University.
Here’s a picture of FAD and DAD with some of those wonderful people circa 2016.
Our story
One average day, upon coming to the campus Newman Center for morning prayer, Josh reported a dream he had to Fr. Andrew.
Josh: “Hey FAD, I had a dream that we started a podcast together and we called it FAD and DAD.”
FAD: “Nice.”
Josh: “Right?”
And that’s about how deep it went (you know, guy talk). Years went by—families grew, assignments changed, and our paths took us to different places on the map. We would occasionally talk about the long lost dream of the FAD and DAD podcast. Then one day at a McDonald’s (yes, McDonald’s) we decided to make it happen.
Our approach
FAD&DAD is a podcast that journeys through the lives and writings of the Church Fathers. Ultimately, it’s an excuse to kill two birds with one stone: (1) have a good reason to kindle our friendship, and (2) indulge in our love of lifelong learning and formation. If others get to benefit from it as well, thanks be to God.
Our podcast isn’t scholarly; nor is it elementary. In fact, it doesn’t try and fit into any one box. Our approach is to slowly read through one ancient work at a time, discussing those things that catch our eye, enflame our hearts, and aid us in our journey toward heaven. If you’re looking for an in-depth resource on patristics, there are great resources out there. If you’re looking Christ-centered discussions, a little stretch of formation, some witty banter, and great companionship, then you’ve come to the right place.

“Can’t get enough!”
